Naskah-naskah Budaya Batak masih banyak tertinggal di Belanda (Netherland) & Jerman (Deutschland), diduga naskah tersebut dibawa kesana sekitar tahun 1700-an. Diperkirakan naskah-naskah tersebut ada sebanyak 2000, dari sekitar 2.000 naskah Batak tersebut ada 1.000 naskah dalam bentuk
lak-lak (kulit kayu) dan sisanya dalam bentuk bambu atau tulang, dan hingga kini naskah masih tersimpan rapi. Keberadaan naskah Batak paling banyak berada di Tropen Museum Amsterdam, Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden (Perpustakaan Universitas Leiden),
dan Museum Antropologi Leiden.
